Public Blog-#5 After The Brief Hiatus

Hello friends, I’m back again after the brief hiatus. I truly am enjoying this period of my life, but honestly, I’m not getting as much sleep. Let me start with an apology to my fictitious readers. I know I’m late to publish this week’s edition, not that you noticed.

What got my eye?

There is a new app on the block. And it’s called Threads. It is exactly similar to Twitter, yet it’s gaining popularity faster than anticipated. The parent company that created Threads is Meta. Meta or earlier Facebook is known to copy the best features from the other apps. It had copied reels from tick tock, it had copied disappearing stories from Snapchat. Being threatened by WhatsApp it was quick to buy it. It even tried buying Twitter. And eventually, Elon Musk walked into control of Twitter. He brought a lot of changes to the Twitter app, whether it’s good or bad, we can’t say. However, one thing was for sure there was a lot of chaos after Musk took over. A lot of rules were being changed and people were very unhappy. Elon Musk also made one cardinal mistake of firing people left right and center. He truly believed that Twitter was overstaffed and hence was not making any profit. Meta was quick to hire these disgruntled employees from Twitter. And in no time they build a copycat of Twitter. The launch of Threads could not have come at a better time. There was downtime on Twitter this week. What added fuel to the fire was when Must announced a few rule changes. One user on Twitter could only see 6000 posts per day. This enraged a lot of users. On this opportunity Meta announced Threads. It is associated with Instagram. This helped Threads to become popular in no time. Netflix, Facebook, and Twitter took years if not months to reach 1 million active users but Threads achieved it in just 5 hours. A lot of people found it very easy to switch. When I opened my account on Threads I was given the option to follow everyone that I was following on Instagram. And with a single click, I had my same community on Instagram available on this new app. It didn’t feel like new anymore. It also has an amazing feature of “Take a Break”. The App forces you to take a break after using it for 10, 20, or 30 minutes. This helps in stopping the mind-numbing scrolling that people usually do on such apps.

So overall my impression of this new app is that it won’t matter to a user, however, it surely brought tough competition to Twitter.

A quote that stuck with me?

Weak intention, procrastination, and lack of focus are often manifestations of disabling beliefs about yourself and your capacity to achieve your goal.

What am I reading?

I continue to read Your Money or Your Life book and almost 80% completed. I know I am a slow reader. The recently concluded chapter taught me the difference between work and wages. Work is something that is the purpose of our life whereas wage is something we do to earn for livelihood. As the adage taught us, one for the kitchen and one for the heart concept. One of the famous Marathi writers, P L Deshpande also mentioned the same in one of his writings “No one escapes the struggle for earning a livelihood but assuming that the entire life is only dedicated to that struggle is idiotic.” It is important to break the linkage between work and wages. It helps us to understand that our job is just a part of our life and not the entire life itself. We can do so much more that can define the purpose of our lives.

So have you ever wondered what is the purpose of your life?

That’s it for this week, I would love to hear your thoughts on this public blog, so leave a comment. thank you

Until next time…
