Namaste friends!
How are you doing? I hope you all are doing fine. So here we go with the third edition of the public blog.
What got my eye?
We all grew up watching certain cable channels and one of the names that would immediately ring our bells was Zee Entertainment. There were many famous programs on this channel that we all enjoyed like “Hum paanch”. But what if I tell you that the same beloved Zee’s owner has swindled the money?
So the tale goes like this. Subash Chandra is the owner of Zee and Essel Group amongst many other companies. Essel Group needed some guarantee to pick up a loan from Yes Bank. Zee, a sister company, stepped in and offered 200 crores as FD to Yes Bank. Since Zee is a listed company, its stakeholders were not happy with this loan. Ideally, if the Essel Group had returned the money back to Zee things would have been hunky dory. When the Sebi auditors asked this same question to Zee, Zee stated that they had the money back and provided a receipt as well. But auditors were not convinced. In the words of the Finshot itself, below is what transpired for the transaction.-
Zee took some money out of its coffers and paid an entity called Living Entertainment. These folks then transferred the money to Khubsoorat Infra. This infra company then moved this money to Sprit Infrapower & Multiventures. This entity then took the money and quietly sent it to Pan India Infraprojects. From here it was handed over to Essel Green Mobility. And finally, Essel Green Mobility transferred the money back to Zee.

who knew, that even reputed brands like Zee are indulging in corporate fraud?
Glad to share an update on the no-sugar experiment-
My will continues to be strong, and my weight is steady. After the drop of 1 kg in the initial 2 weeks I haven’t seen any reduction in the last week. I do continue to enjoy the no-sugar diet and I don’t see any other side effects. I did have one sweet as a prasad and I cannot explain the party inside my mouth when I tasted that. When you don’t have sweets often, when you do have them even a little bit it is incredibly satisfying.
What am I reading?
I continued to read the book of your life or your money and there I learned a beautiful concept. Imagine you have one year at your hand with the current full salary being paid but you’re not required to do the job. What would you do with your time then? How would you utilize your time? Would you paint? Would you dance? How will you spend your time?
Spend a few minutes thinking about it before moving on. Sounds like a very simple question but when you start thinking about it, you understand the difficulty. It helps you clear your priorities in life. If you are not worried about finances, how would you spend your time on this earth?
I’ve been trying to think about this question and find a suitable answer. Maybe you could also join me in doing this experiment.
This book advocates frugality. How often we are chasing a big house or a big fat salary or the corner office and don’t really think about enjoying the real moments in our lives? I remember a beautiful interview by Jackie Shroff, an Indian movie actor. He mentions in the interview that when he was poor at the beginning of his life, they all lived in one room. Even if one member of the family coughs, everyone gets up and helps that member. Everyone was so emotionally close and they really didn’t mind living in the tight space. but as his career progressed he bought a big bungalow where everyone had their own rooms. One such night, his mother passed away in a nearby bedroom. When he got up to check on his mother, he felt extremely sad. He wished they were living in the small room like earlier because he could have easily identified that uneasiness of his mother and could have been able to help. He concludes the interview by saying, the house that got bigger and a wall came in between him and his mother’s life.
Maybe frugality is very important in life. It doesn’t necessarily talk about being cheap but it focuses on enjoying what you have rather than chasing something that you feel will give you happiness.
With this, I conclude this edition of the week. I would love to hear your views and feedback about the blog. By the way, I am looking for a website where I can host a whole lot of other content, including the public blog, and I would really love it if someone could help me with the design and making of it.
