New Tech, Money definition, and Job challenges
Hey friends,
While I have been blogging in private for some time now, finally I have mustered the courage to put out a blog publicly.
I recently completed a book called “show your work”. The book encourages you to show your in-progress work. It helps you get feedback and encourages collaboration with other like-minded people. There is a lot more in this book, which I will share via a book review very soon. Taking a leaf out of this book I thought of initiating a public blog.
Considering that consistency is one of my enemies, I wish to publish a blog at least once a week. The blog will be an account of some of the key projects that I have undertaken (personal projects to be precise, after all this isn’t LinkedIn), what I have been reading, some of the key happenings of the week, and much more. So with that introduction out of the way,
let’s begin with the Numero uno entry.
What caught my eye? Quite literally!!
The future is here with Apple Vision Pro. Apple recently released the Vision Pro headset. It’s actually more than just a headset. Just like in the Iron Man movie, Tony Stark could navigate a lot of design right in front of his desk in an augmented reality way, that is actually going to happen. Basically, you wear a headset with a 360° view, and just like the way we interact with our apps on the phone via touch, we can interact on the screen with our eyes and a touch of the fingers. There are like a zillion cameras that track your eye movement inside the headset and track nearby environments. So when you touch your fingers, the headset knows and it opens the app inside your headset.
It is a stand-alone computer with its own OS and a charging cord. Currently, the company promises 2 2-hour usage period on battery and just like any other computer, you can use it unlimited while on charging.
I am not sure of other usage details but I feel it’s going to be a game-changer for gaming and content viewing. We can turn the screen in front of our eyes in the headset as wide as a theater screen or we can easily see the reality behind the headset with a snap of a finger. Imagine watching Kohli bat from the umpire’s point of view… wow the possibilities could be unlimited. This might just be an era of true immersive 3D content.
Move over mobile addiction, this addiction will surely drown us. If ever we were worried about men walking with their necks down, now they will barely be walking as the AI headset will bring the world to them.
We may never need a full-screen television anymore with the headset around our heads.
On the con side, it does look bulky and could have some potential side effects for the eyes. I am not sure if there is any provision for people with glasses, not sure! Apart from the cost of it being a whopping 3500$ which translates to 2.8lc INR, I think it makes you look like a housefly.
Nonetheless, it’s a new frontier- technology taking us beyond our imagination. I wonder how Samsung, Sony, and Google will react to this.
What I have been reading?
The book that I’m currently reading is Your Money Or Your Life By Vicky Robins And Joe Dominguez. I am just a chapter 3, but surely it makes a lot of sense and challenges our beliefs about money. The real eye-opener in these three chapters so far was the definition of money.
Quotes from the book that stayed with me
- A wise person said you can never get enough of what you don’t really want.
- John Stuart Mill once said, “Men do not desire to be rich, only to be richer than other men.”
- Your feedback should help people win. It is just criticism
Honestly, I always loved reading but never could put a structure around it. But since last year I have been very focused on book reading. At first, it sounds like a daunting task after long hours of office work. So, to break this barrier, I just tell myself to read only 4 pages. That is. This strategy has helped me complete 7 books.
I learned that after reading a couple of books, you tend to forget the learnings or the story. To be able to take those lessons and implement them in life, I started jotting down notes. I realize the usefulness of the tool called notion, which is so pleasant to use and has been my book database for one and a half years. I want to reach into the depths of this database and produce book reviews every once in a while.
What I have been thinking?
I’ve been thinking lately about how many people have been forwarding their resumes to me in the hopes of finding a job. It’s unfortunate that most of them don’t get selected. The number of people as well as disabled who are looking for employment is quite staggering. You might know by now that we are the most populated country on earth. It also gives an advantage to us having the highest number of young people who can be termed as productive citizens. And some % of these productive citizens don’t have adequate education or even if they have adequate education, they are not landing a decent job.
Apart from the usual techniques of landing a job, if you have any new ideas or leads for a graduate to land a decent job, please do let me know. Also, if you know there are any portals that can provide jobs to individuals with a disability who do not have any educational background, please do mention it in the comments or message me.
As I am towards the concluding part of this public blog, I feel a sense of relief having put my thoughts out there. I would also love to hear your thoughts about the overall blog and if you think something else can be added, do let me know.
